La Grave's clientele know why they keep coming back. This world-renowned site has made the best of its high mountain environment far from the cableway pylons and bannered runs. Great skiing: glacial slopes, steep gullies, and deep coombs swoop down to larch forests. A limited number of packed-down runs and ski lifts make way for a superb free ride area on a 2150 m drop. The small stone-built village with its 600 inhabitants comes right out of a postcard, and makes no concessions to modern tourism.
